SoVA is very excited to announce our first annual summer art camp for high school visual arts students. The workshop, Portfolio Processes, will take place July 7-12, 2013, on Penn State’s University Park campus. The art camp offers an intensive residential studio workshop program across various art media for interested high school art students (entering high school shophomores through just-graduated seniors are eligible to attend).
The theme for the 2013 SoVA summer art camp is Portfolio Processes. The purpose is to improve young artists’ creative capacities in a range of media and processes that can be used in the development of an art portfolio. Campers will complete a series of workshops in drawing, photography, printmaking, and digital structures taught by experienced graduate art students and faculty artist advisers. All workshops are held in the SoVA art and computer studios. Campers will also participate in related studio activities, film nights, and social activities within the school and across campus. The camp coincides with the 2013 Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts in State College.
Campers will leave with the necessary skills to professionally showcase their art and design through our Portfolio Building Basics workshop, including steps to building a portfolio, and how to document artwork. On the last day of camp, SoVA will host an exhibition reception for campers and their families, where campers will exhibit their work in SoVA’s Edwin W. Zoller Gallery.
