Robert Yarber, Distinguished Professor of Art, recently produced a book, Panic Pending, to accompany his exhibition of the same name, held at the Galerie Alex Daniels-Reflex in Amsterdam, December 7, 2013 – January 21, 2014. The exhibition featured his most recent series of large-scale drawings that comprise an epic response to our mad hatter world of today, rendered with Yarber’s unique vision. The book is a 120-page fully illustrated folio of over forty works and includes the large pastel and pencil drawings from his Panic Pending series, as well as drawings from two other recent series, Calavera Gnosticos and Irrational Exhuberance, which were shown at Sonnabend Gallery, New York.
The book includes a definitive essay by Herbert Marks, professor of comparative literature at Indiana University, who is the editor of the highly acclaimed edition of the The English Bible, King James Version: The Old Testament, which is regarded as a stunning work of scholarship. Professor Marks applies a sharp historical and cultural interpretive lens to the collection of Yarber’s drawings in a detailed essay that is as vast and visionary as the works themselves.
