Beyond the Ordinary Classroom: Penn State School of Visual Arts, The Art of the Critique

Sculpture Critique

Penn State School of Visual Arts (SoVA) B.F.A. students in the Sculpture area gather with Bonnie Collura, professor of art, and Graeme Sullivan, director, to discuss their work as part of the Sculpture area's mid-term critiques. A critical part of being a successful professional artist is being able to clearly articulate one's creative choices. To aid in honing those skills, an integral part of SoVA's learning process is the critique ("crit"). During the critiquing process, students present their art to SoVA faculty and peers, describe meaning and metaphor in their work, and discuss how their works might continue to grow and evolve.
